School pupils enjoy lunchtime clubs funded by the Union Square community bursary scheme.
An Aberdeen primary school has introduced free lunchtime clubs after receiving funding from a community bursary scheme.
Pupils at Kittybrewster Primary School are spending their lunchtimes learning creative dance, storytelling, music and yoga – all taught by local professionals – thanks to money from the Union Square bursary scheme.
Kittybrewster Primary School head teacher Ian Macindoe said: "The lunchtime clubs provide our pupils with a new, fun experience, and, most importantly, for free!
"Earlier in the school year, we asked the pupils how they might like to spend their lunch breaks and what sorts of hobbies would interest them. Now, thanks to the funding from Union Square, we are able to make many of these requests a reality.
"The activities have proved hugely popular since launching at the beginning of the new term just a few weeks ago, so much so that the dance group are even planning a Christmas performance for the whole school! We hope to be able to carry on the fun come the New Year."
Union Square's Community Bursary scheme was introduced to help support a number of charitable organisations which benefit the local community. Since opening, Union Square has donated £40,000 to 25 community bursary beneficiaries.
Penny Godfrey, Union Square’s marketing manager, said: "The community bursary programme presents an opportunity to help local charities and organisations make a real difference at grass roots level.
"Kittybrewster Primary is a great example of this, and the funding has allowed the school to introduce a whole host of new activities to pupils. These are great confidence boosters as well as being lots of fun and it’s great to hear they are being so well received."
